Chia seeds of the Salvia plant have been known to the inhabitants of South America since ancient times. They called them “food for runners” due to their high nutritional value. The small chia seeds are a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, potassium, magnesium and calcium. Only a portion of them satisfies the daily need of the body for fibers. They are easily prepared, do not require heat treatment, you may just soak them in water and then add them to muesli, raw bars, smoothies or shakes.
